Country: Poland Year issue: 1944 Sale date: 2013-10-10 Bids: 1 Price*: 325

Rare postage stamp 1944 year issue - Poland. "Poland WWII 1944 Home Army Scarce Warsaw Uprising Single Expertized VF MNH NGAI. The stamp offered here was prepared by the Polish Home Army in September of 1944 but it was never issued or postally used. The stamp depicts two resistance members throwing grenades and the lower inscription commemorates the start of the Warsaw Uprising. The upper inscriptions identify the stamp as a field post issue of the Home Army. These were not officially issued in deference to another design which was issued in five different colours on September 3, 1944. Officially only 2250 examples of this stamp were prepared but there is some evidence that perhaps twice that number were printed. There are six different types of this stamp which were all produced without gum. This lot offers a very nice scarce expertized example of a Type 3 stamp. Reference and Condition: This stamp is listed in the 2011-12 Michel Osteuropa catalogue under Polen Lokalausgaben 1944-45 Warschau Post wahrend des Aufstandes 1944 with a value of И450 or approximately $610. The stamp is also listed in Fischer (Vol. II) as Poczta Powstancza w Warszawie # 118. This example is in excellent overall condition with typical centering and perforations, free of any stains, bends or creases and the stamp has not been previously hinged. This stamp has been expertized by current Polish Federation expert Leslaw Schmutz and the reverse bears his guarantee mark ""L. SCHMUTZ"" and his signature in the appropriate location, plus the notation identifying the stamp as a Type 3 example." Stamp price(value) 10 October 2013 - 325 *.
